Institute: Hume glad to be back at Drumahoe and raring to go

The 23-year-old admits he didn’t have a great time at Premiership side Ballinamallard United and he’s just looking to get some much needed game time under his belt.

“Things just didn’t work out at Ballinamallard, but I’m back at Stute and I’m happy to be back,” said Hume.

“I know most of the players and the coaching staff, so it wasn’t a hard decision for me, yes we have lost quite a few players, but the young players who we have brought in have a lot of energy and enthusiasm.

“I need to get minutes under my belt and hopefully I can hit the ground running, get back scoring goals and get my confidence up.”

As for his boss Kevin Deery, he is hoping their recent form will continue at Knockbreda this weekend, where Hume is expected to play some part in the game.

Deery watched his side make it three games undefeated after they saw off Oxford United Stars in the Craig Memorial Cup, on Saturday.

“You can sense a wee bit of resolve coming out of the players and that’s what I’m delighted with,” said Deery.

“We’ll look forward now to the next game and keeping this mini-run going.”

Unfortunately against the Intermediate League men goalkeeping error by Michael Lynch meant the tie went to penalties, but the ex-Derry City U19 keeper redeemed himself by saving in the shoot-out.

“You have to feel for young Michael because he had absolutely nothing to do in the game,” he added.

“When you play at a wide open venue, it’s going to be difficult and we were doing a professional job until that lapse of concentration.

“We were solid, we didn’t give them any chances and that was the plan until then. Overall I felt we deserved to go through.”

Deery also conceded that the windy conditions at the Swilly Stadium didn’t help either side, but he’s happy that his side got their professional job done.

“You have to erase games like that because we had a good session on a good surface on Thursday night. I’m still looking at Larne and taking the positive from that, how well we played in the second half and how good we were.

“But out there on Saturday you couldn’t get the ball down and play with the swirling wind.

“We’re in the next round anyway and hopefully we can continue to do well in the competition and reach the final and get a wee day out on Boxing Day.”
