Carlow Schools Select U14...1

Easter weekend afforded ’Stute the chance to entertain a travelling County Carlow squad as they prepared for their Counties tournament.

Carlow had played Donegal and Inishowen sides as part of their trip and the match against ’Stute concluded their trip.

The Waterside teenagers gave a great representation of themselves in a tight game which could have gone either way. Carlow started brightly but as ’Stute settled down they got into the game.

The front three of Gamble, Curry and Adams were a constant threat and it was the latter who rampaged down the right to pull back to Smallwoods who fired just over from the edge of the box.

In midfield Waterstone, Cloete and Donnel put in some sterling performances against a large travelling side.

The away side grabbed the lead just before half-time as the left winger latched on to a fine cross from the right to guide the ball home.

’Stute freshened the side up just into the second half and soon drew level. Donnel latched on to an advantage from a foul and his lofted shot was tipped away by the keeper only for Deighan to head home into the roof of the net.

The game was back and forth after, Lamberton with a pair of smart saves and ’Stute unlucky not to steal a winner. A fair result in a competitive game.
