Manager happy winning streak is continuing

HOLDERS Lurgan Celtic maintained their grip on the Radcliffe Cup they won last season with Saturday’s 1-0 win over Armagh City.

While pleased with that manager Ciaran O’Kane was also delighted his side kept up their winning momentum against a good Armagh outfit.

“It was a good result given the fact that both teams have been going well,” said Ciaran.

“They had won all six of their league games while we had only lost once.

“We were well worth the win, starting well and looking promising early on. We even missed a penalty

“We were on top for the majority of the first half but had to wait until early in the second half to get the breakthrough.

“In the last 15 or 20 minutes Armagh came back at us, as expected, but we held on and deserved to win the game.”

It’s back to league action this Saturday for the Hoops with a trip to Glebe Rangers.

The Lurgan side will have Paul Donegan, their new signing from Newry, available.

“Glebe are only two points behind us in the league,” said Ciaran. “It’s a bit of a six pointer. Glebe came down from the first division last season so they will have ambitions to get straight back up again.

“We will be looking to put in a good performance to keep our momentum going and we have a good chance of taking the three points.

Conor McAnallen, who was a vital player for the Hoops last season, is back in training this week and had a chance of making the squad.

But due to GAA commitments Brendan Mackin and Raymond Fitzpatrick will not be available.
