Marcus Rashford visits next generation of Larne FC players

Manchester United and England striker Marcus Rashford MBE paid a visit to the Larne Academy of Sport today (Thursday), spending time with the east Antrim club’s student footballers.

The 26-year-old attended the revamped facility, formerly The Cliff, with the club thanking him for taking the time to engage with the young athletes.

In a statement issued to the Larne Times, a spokesperson for the reigning Sports Direct Irish Premier League champions said: “Marcus called to the Larne Academy of Sport on a visit with his close friend Ro-shaun Williams, who has just signed for the club.

“He was generous with his time, especially in how long he spent with our scholarship students.

“For young players starting off on their football journey, they couldn't help but be inspired by all that Marcus has achieved, on and off the pitch.

“We're hoping to welcome him back before the end of the season, when he will hopefully also take in a game.”

Commenting on social media after Premier League player’s visit, club owner Kenny Bruce MBE stated: “What an incredibly inspiring person Marcus is, absolutely delighted to have met with him today and I hope he will visit again in the future. Remarkable person.”

Coach Gerry Flynn, who played for over 15 seasons in the Irish League at clubs including Cliftonville, Ballymena and Coleraine, branded Rashford a “lovely lad” following his visit to the east Antrim town.

Rashford received the MBE for services to vulnerable children from Prince William during a ceremony at Windsor Castle in November 2021.
