McConaghie signs for Coleraine

The former Lisburn Distillery man previously played under Oran Kearney at Limavady United, and the Bannsiders’ boss is pleased to link up with him again.

“Gareth is a player who I know very well,” said Kearney.

“He had two great years under me at Limavady before dropping out of senior football for a couple of years.

“However, Gareth is now in the same position as James McLaughlin was. He was far too good for the league he was playing in and he is ready to make the step up to senior football again.

“It’s up to him now to take the opportunity and rise to the occasion, and I have no doubt he can do it.

“Gareth has all the attributes to be a top defender, and he will be a great addition to our squad.

“Obviously we have to add to our defensive cover following Howard Beverland’s departure and Gareth fits the bill.”
