Northend U-12s enjoy ‘derby’ bragging rights

Northend United U12s were pleasantly surprised to be lining up against Carniny Youth at the weekend at the Rec in Lisburn.

Uel Magill’s boys turned in a top performance, running in five goals in the last twelve minutes, to beat their Ballymena neighbours by an 8-1 scoreline.

Elsewhere in the Lisburn League, there was some encouraging performances, including a close fought match by Davy Wylie’s U13s who eventually lost their match against Lisburn Youth by a close margin

Northend United 3, Hillsborough Juniors 4: AFter falling behind, Northend levelled when Jay McKeown got to a loose ball ahead of the keeper.

In the second half, Hillsborough scored twice more before McKeown scored again. Hillsborough put the outcome beyond doubt with a fourth goal before McKeown completed his hat-trick near the end.

Carniny Youth 1, Northend 8: With Oxford Sunnyside withdrawing from the league Northend were handed an early season derby against Carniny Youth.

The Blues ran out impressive winners with goals from Lewis Hector (2), Kai Barr (2), Jack McIlhatton, Peter Bristow, Callum McMurray and Kevin Cosgrove.

Lisburn Youth 5, Northend 3: Northend led 2-1 at the break thanks to two Pat Ferris goals, with a Lisburn penalty sandwiched in between.

Three goals at the start of the second half put Lisburn ahead before Northend scored a third goal but Lisburn put the outcome beyond doubt with a clinching fifth goal.
