Northend United under-13s excel in first round of Shield competition

It was the first round of the Shield competition for the Northend United Youth sides in the Lisburn Youth League on Saturday.

Davy Wylie’s U13s turned in another top display, beating Lisburn Rangers 5-1 while the U13s, U14s and U15s lost their Shield matches.

In the North West and Coleraine District Youth League, both U10 teams were in action, winning their matches against Magherafelt Sky Blues and Bertie Peacocks Colts. Brian Martin’s U12s kicked off this week in the North West League and turned in a good team performance beating Dungiven Celtic with Caolan Lennon bagging a brace of goals for the Ballymena boys.

The U8s and U9s started their small sided games competition at the Showgrounds at the weekend with two teams at U8 on Friday night and four different teams at U9 on Saturday morning.

Northend 5, Lisburn Rangers 1: Northend were 4-0 up at the interval thanks to Ciaran Campbell’s free kick and Patrick Ferris’ second hat-trick in two games.

Lisburn pulled a goal back in the second half but Northend had the final say as Campbell scored his second.

Northend United’s Football Development Centre continued on Wednesday night when over 40 boys and girls attended the second session under the direction of Northend’s Uefa B and Coerver certified Head Coach, John Devlin,

The FDC is open to all boys and girls aged 4 to 8 inclusive and takes place each Wednesday night from 6-7pm at the Showgrounds.
