A video message posted by manager Gary Hamilton highlighted the initiative.

“We are attempting to make sure people are sufficiently looked after, where needed,” said Hamilton on the club’s social media platforms. “We will be opening Mourneview Park as a drop-off point for vital supplies such as food and everyday needs.

“No matter how big or small your donation, we will make sure it is distributed to those who need it the most.

“Players, staff and other club volunteers will be there to help facilitate this.”

Hamilton was joined by players Jonny Tuffey, James Taylor, Conor McCloskey, Paddy Burns, Sammy Clingan, James Singleton, Jack O’Mahony, Robbie Norton and Conan Byrne - plus first-team coach Mark Ferguson - in delivering the message “you’ve supported us, now it’s our turn to support you”.

A GoFundMe page has been established by the Lurgan outfit with a target figure of £500 as part of Glenavon’s commitment to helping the vulnerable members of the area.

The club confirmed that “we appreciate not everyone will make it along to donate in person so we’ve set up a GoFundMe page and any monies raised will enable our volunteers to pick up the supplies”.

Donation times have been organised across Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at Mourneview Park offering the public an opportunity to deliver key item such as porridge or cereal, tinned foods, rice and pasta, long-life milk, cleaning products (including hand soaps, hand sanitiser and cleaning wipes), toiletries, toilet rolls and kitchen rolls.

Anyone able to make a donation can leave items at Mourneview Park on the following times: Tuesday mornings 10-12 o’clock, Thursday evenings 6-8 o’clock or Saturday mornings 10-12 o’clock.

A number of volunteer co-ordinators from the club are available over telephone as part of the club’s COV-19 Response Initiative: Leigh - 07717295928; Eddie - 07866273306; Sarah-Anne - 07716365422; Adam - 07763907454; David - 07702681044; Chris - 07796551668.
