PROMOTION D-DAY LOOMS FOR COAGH

AN expectant Hagan Park crowd had hoped to be celebrating a league success on Tuesday evening.

Unfortunately, Lurgan Celtic came and ruined a potential title winning party. A 3-2 defeat ruined any chances of Coagh claiming promotion with one game to spare. However, the Hagan Park side will be hugely disappointed with conceding so late in the game.

The winner in the 93rd minute of the tie was worthy of winning any game in any league.

Lurgan counter attacked with pace down the right hand side. A hopeful ball into the box was cleared to the edge of the box by Calderwood, a Lurgan midfielder pounced and rifled a stunning volley into the bottom corner of the goal.

Coagh’s failure to deal with long balls in the box proved to be critical on Tuesday evening. All three of the Lurgan goals came from poor defending and joint managers Stephen Uprichard and Noel Mitchell will be hoping for a major improvement on Saturday afternoon.

Despite conceding this last minute goal, Coagh are still in the driving seat as they sit top of the table on 60 points. Dundela sit in second on 59 with Knockbreda on 58 in third and Lurgan Celtic on 57 in fourth.

Coagh make the trip to Dixon Park to face Ballyclare. Dundela host Portstewart and Knockbreda and Lurgan Celtic are at home to Ballymoney and Wakehurst respectively. Coagh know that victory at Ballyclare will secure the league title. If other results go their way then even a draw could see the Hagan Park outfit promoted.

Kick off at Dixon Park on Saturday is 3pm.
