Six of the best from Calderwood as Southside romp towards title

DAVID Calderwood fired six goals as Southside Youths continued their romp towards the Belfast & East Antrim Youth League title with an 11-1 win over Barn United at the Showgrounds.

With only minutes played a cross from Matthew Henry on the right was volleyed home sweetly by Calderwood to give Southside the lead. 1-0.

On nine minutes Josh McCready won a vital tackle in the midfield allowing Calderwood to cleverly back heel the ball setting Leon Bonnes through on goal to make it 2-0.

Bonnes turned creator on 17 minutes when he crossed for David Calderwood to make it 3-0.

Sam McNiece for Southside was controlling the central midfield and his distribution of the ball was creating attack after attack for the home team.

Leon Bonnes crossed again on 24 minutes for David Calderwood to slot home and complete his 
hat trick. 4-0.

Calderwood amazingly added his fourth and the team’s fifth on 27 minutes when he reacted quickly in a confused Barn defence.

The tireless and hard working Leon Bonnes got his just reward with his second goal on 35 minutes when he chased a lost cause ball forcing the Barn goalkeeper to make panicked attempt at a clearance allowing Leon the simple task of making it 6-0.

As the half time whistle approached Jack Livingstone surged forward down the Southside left and watched as his wicked cross left the visiting defender no option but turn the ball into his own net. 7-0.

This game was now well beyond the visitors but such is the determination of the Southside team they continued to push for more goals.

Sam McNiece went close with his trade mark long range shot before another telling cross from Leon Bonnes this time found Ryan Stewart who neatly volleyed home from 
close range.

Captain Jonny Logan now playing in an unfamiliar central midfield role played an inch perfect through ball for the energetic Dylan Hamill to race onto and make it 9-0 on 50 minutes.

Another telling through ball from the skipper Jonny Logan this time found David Calderwood who calmly made it 10-0 on 60 minutes.

On 70 minutes it was that man again David Calderwood receiving the ball inside the Barn Utd penalty area and shooting home his sixth goal of the game leaving the scoreline 11-0.

A consolation penalty for the visitors on 75 minutes was awarded when a Dylan Graham tackle was adjudged by the referee to be inside the penalty area. Lewis Erwin picked the right side but was unable to prevent the visitors scoring from the spot kick.
