Smith takes up Annagh coaching role

McKinstry, a former Irish League manager, has left Annagh due to outside commitments - with boss Dean Smith turning to the experienced midfielder this week as a replacement.

“Gary could no longer commit the time he wanted to the club but we wish him all the best and everyone is certainly grateful for the hard work put in over the past few seasons,” said Smith. “As a young manager learning the ropes, on a personal level I picked up so much from watching and talking to Gary.

“He was generous in passing on bits of advice and just a great person to have around the club.

“In terms of Andy coming on board, he took his first training night this week and everyone got a lot out of the session.

“Andy has been involved with the Milk Cup for the past four or five years so there is also that knowledgebase of players.

“He has management experience with Coagh United and a successful playing career but, most importantly, can come in and handle the coaching role.

“Andy will remain on the books as a player but has made that commitment to the coaching position alongside myself and Alan Murphy.

“As a current player, there is no issue over integration or respect from the other lads.”

Annagh have also added Ross Wilson to the players’ roster from Loughgall.

“Ross is a talented centre-back who has first-team experience in the past with Loughgall,” said Smith. “We are delighted to have him at the club, especially as a left-footed player.”

Annagh will meet Dergview tomorrow (Saturday) in the Intermediate Cup from 2.30 - with a venue to be confirmed by today (Friday) following a pitch inspection in Castlederg. If required, the tie can switch to Annagh’s Tandragee Road.

Annagh will also face Knockbreda at home on Tuesday in the Irish Cup.
