Coagh United were the unfortunate team, which the Drumahoe club took their anger out on, at Drumahoe, on Saturday.

“It was obviously great to get the victory, after the Distillery game where we were 2-0 up and threw it away, which was disappointing and because of that the players wanted to bounce back against Coagh,” he admitted.

“From my personal point of view it’s obviously good to score, but as a team we are looking to cut out the goals that we conceded as well.”

The talented front man played his part in their victory, having a hand in three of the six goals and he also netted his first goal of the campaign.

“I was enjoying the game and we were creating plenty of chances,” he added.

“Then big (Stephen) Parkhouse came on and he put me through one-on-one with the keeper and it was good to get the goal and get started for the new season.”

Worryingly for this weekend’s opponents Ballyclare Comrades, the striker wants to carry his form on, but feels keeping a clean-sheet is just as important.

“We obviously want to carry our form on into this Saturday’s game, but as I have said we want to cut out the goals which we are conceding, if we can do that then we’ll start to look to push on and hopefully over the next few games we can keep the run going and we can keep on scoring.

“It was good to get 2-0 up early on against Coagh and it meant that we could take things on from that, but we had a bit of a scare when it went to 2-1, as we had a bit of a flash back to the Lisburn game.

“But thankfully Paddy (McLaughlin) of all people stepped in and scored our third with that header, so soon after they pulled a goal back.

“To be honest I think Paddy’s goal was the changing point in the game and we pushed on from it. We unfortunately conceded another goal, which although was super, we know that we should have got tighter.”
