United Youth Academy sides return to match action

The United under 17’s also debuted on Friday evening and were unlucky to lose out in a close encounter with St. Oliver Plunkett.

The games come thick and fast this week, the under 14’s face Carniny in the first of the season’s town derbies this Saturday morning at the Showgrounds.

Back at grassroots level the highly successful United Mini soccer school opens its doors again this Saturday morning. The school caters for both boys and girls born in 2010,2009,2008,2007.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Lurgan Town U-13 1, BUYA U-13 8: Ballymena settled early on as Taylor Adger fired home from close range. Ross McCausland was making some excellent breaks down the right and increased the Skies advantage.

After the break, McCausland got a second joined by Bradley McCartney and Sean McAllister who rifled home a longe range special. Scott McCullough impressed once more from the bench and nipped in with a quickfire double, before his cross was finished at the back post by Matthew Worthington.

St Oliver Plunkett U-17 3, Ballymena Unietd U-17 2: Ballymena took the lead early in the second half when Sam Millar’s low cross from the left was slotted in by Michael McCabe.

Ballymena doubled their lead when Zak Herbinson’s clever ball put McCabe through to round the keeper.

Against the run of play Plunketts pulled a goal back. With renewed hope, Plunketts got their equaliser and late on in the game scored the winner.
