Wakehurst boss snaps up Kilrea United starlet Montgomery

Wakehurst manager Paul Muir has made another new addition to his squad for the forthcoming season.

Muir has snapped up forward Jamie Montgomery from Coleraine & District League side Kilrea United, for whom he plundered 48 goals last season.

“I had a look at Jamie in a match our reserve team played against our feeder club Northend’s under-17 team at the weekend,” said Muir.

“He certainly did himself no harm by cutting in from the left and curling a 25 yard right footed shot into the top corner!

“The game itself was a valuable exercise for Strollers manager Jason Connolly to run his eye over his squad for the season and to see talent he may be calling on.

“It also gave me opportunity to throw a couple of trialists into the mix.

“The quality of football from Northend was refreshing to see with the ball kept on the ground and football played at every opportunity - it all augurs well for the future of Wakehurst,” added Paul, whose side play their opening pre-season fixture this Saturday, against Championship One side Knockbreda at Mill Meadow.
