Four-goal Ballymoney pop Cork opponents

On Saturday Ballymoney took on U.C.C in the first round of the Irish Hockey League at the Joey Dunlop Centre.

In the first quarter both teams were evenly matched with end to end play.

Money were unlucky not to convert any of their hard worked opportunities into goals.

At the start of the second quarter a break from Katie Mullan saw Money on the attack, she weaved into the circle and smacked the ball towards the goal where Nikki Parke deflected the ball into the back of the net.

Cork soon were back on the attack, winning a penalty corner.

Money’s defence held strong and cleared the ball to safety.

Ballymoney were on the attack again, with Katie Mullan, Nikki Parke and Susie Martin all unlucky to convert any points to the scoreboard.

Coming out after half-time Money were hungry for more with a ball in from Kate Caithness on the left to Nikki Parke in the circle for a reverse shot on goal which was guided in by Jill Kennedy.

Ballymoney kept the pressure on with Cork’s defence being tested to its limits with numerous short corners and strikes on goal.

Cork, however, were quick on the attack winning a penalty corner, which they managed to convert to a goal.

Into the final quarter Ballymoney upped the stakes with the forwards and links working well with each other.

They skillfully moved the ball up the pitch winning a succession of penalty corners, with Susie Martin striking the ball into the back of the net after the third attempt.

Ballymoney kept the work rate up with Robyn Chambers taking the ball up the right of the pitch and passing to Emma Lynch for a sweep into the goal.

Final score was 4-1 to Ballymoney. Many thanks to the umpires and the supporters.
