Francis and Owen take Ballycastle Golf Club’s top end of season trophies

After starting with a blank at the first the only way for Ciaran Mc Farline was up and this certainly proved to be the case in the Sunday Stableford competition held on 6 September.

His score of 43 points was also matched by Gerry Mc Conville who won the Division 2 section and Joe Brogan who claimed the Division 3 section also with 43 points.

Three handicapper Francis McGinn produced yet another fine round with a gross 68 which converted into 42 points enabling him to claim the Division 1 section. Birdies at the 1st and 6th followed up later in his round with an eagle at the 12th stood Michael Mc Afee in good stead in the Midweek Stableford competition. The 12 points accumulated at those three holes helped Michael on his way to his 40 points total which saw him clinch 1st place from a trio players hot on his heels with 39 points. Tony Connolly was second helped by 3 threes in the last 4 holes. Standing on the 18th tee with 39 points 9 handicapper Danny Taggart looked a good bet to claim the top spot but an unfortunate visit to the deep fairway bunker put paid to his chances as he finished his day with a blank. His back nine however was sufficient to let him slip into third place just ahead of Barney Mc Cahery.

The Stableford Competition held on Saturday 12 was in aid of the Causeway Artscare Charity. Playing off 24 Anthony Murphy produced the goods with a fine score of 43 points and this gave him a comfortable 5 points cushion over second place man Kevin Morton.

The Winchester Bowl and the Golfer of the Year have now been allocated for the 2014/2015 season. The Winchester Bowl is awarded to the player with the highest gross average score achieved in 10 out of 17 competitions, whilst the Golfer of the Year trophy is awarded to the player with the best nett results in all of the same 17 competitions. The recipients not surprisingly have figured prominently throughout the year in various competitions.The Winchester Bowl winner was Francis Mc Ginn Jnr.,whilst the Golfer of the Year title was awarded to Owen Kennedy.
