Frank Hasson wins the Margy Cup

Lee Barr from Gracehill was probably glad to see the back of the first five in Ballycastle Golf Club as his efforts over that part of the course only registered him four points in the Midweek Stableford on Wednesday 10 June. However things really took off for Lee from that point on as he covered 12 of the remaining 13 holes in one under par.

Whilst he did blank the 18th, the 23 handicapper racked up a total of 44 points which was sufficient for him to lift top prize.

Two points behind him came Connor Taggart. Playing off 22 the Nairn and Portnoo member put together a very steady round and apart from blemishes at the

fourth and ninth, he registered a score of 42 points.

This was sufficient to knock the club professional’s right hand man Sean Mc Cullough into third place on 41 points. Sean’s 41 points was then sufficient to push John Armstrong into fourth place on 40 points.

The Margy Cup was the trophy on offer on Saturday 13 June and Frank Hasson was the man who claimed it.

Playing off 17 he produced a nett 65 which was a fine score in the tricky conditions. However hot on his heels was Gerard Dowds who also carded a nett 65 but eventually lost out on countback.

Both players completed the back 9 in 3 over par but when handicaps were taken into consideration Frank had done just enough to see Gerard off and lift the cup!
