Al Murray wins sweep

Alastair’s day did not start well; his seven at the opening hole gave him nothing. Things got better quickly though as he rattled off a few pars before knocking in a birdie four at the long seventh and another at nine with a three. All this gave Alastair 20 points at the turn.

He dropped a shot with a five at ten before returning to the par trail again. Both par fives fell to birdie fours to boost his points tally. A six for one point was Alastair’s only single point return on a back nine that gave him another 23 points and a big advantage in the countback stakes.

Andrew Horne was the man to suffer from that, scoring another 43 but with a return nine of 21 points. Andrew plays off 16 and was scoring well from the outset: his six at the par four fifth was his only slip in a front nine that yielded 22 points, including a birdie four at the seventh. Another double bogey appeared on the card at ten before Andrew settled again and scored properly.

The long fourteenth was birdied for four points as did the par four sixteenth with a three. The difficult seventeenth proved to be just that as Andrew drew a blank there. Two points to finish the round and 43 points were in the bag.

As with the winner, Ivan McDonald’s day got off to a bad start with no points at the opening hole. A run of four three pointers from the fifth helped him get to the turn with 21 points scored. A couple of par fives at thirteen and fourteen got Ivan up on the course for the back nine before he spent too long in a greenside bunker at fifteen and failed to score there. Nine points from the final three holes gave Ivan another 31 points for his total of 42 and third place on the day.

Last week’s winner of the Dinner Day Bowl, Mark Kilgore, secured another victory in the best gross section with a great 69. His birdie three at the eight broke a run of pars as Mark ended the opening nine one under par 35. The inward nine opened with a birdy and this was not the end of the birdie hunt, the twelfth played in two shots and the thirteenth in four, this put Mark on four under par. Sixteen and seventeen took bogeys from Mark but a closing three at the par four eighteenth allowed.
