Dean secures Gribben memorial victory

The top card was returned by Dean S Kernohan who, with a shot on handicap at each hole, scored a total of 40 points but he had to depend on a better last six hole total from Callum Black.

Dean used his handicap allowance well on the first nine holes three pars plus six bogeys for 21 points and he continued to score regularly on the second nine with two pars and six bogeys, along with a double bogey at the par three 16th as he added a further 19 points.

Second placed Black (15) also had 21 on the front nine and it was a double bogey on the penultimate hole which proved the difference between the two players on countback.

Ciaran Corbett (12) took third prize by virtue of having the best of four 39 point totals. After 18 points on the front nine, Ciaran’s back nine yielded 21 points from six pars and three bogeys and he was two points ahead of Paddy McReynolds and Colin Thompson over that back nine holes.

Fourth placed McReynolds (13) had 20 points from the outward nine - which included a birdie at the seventh - and he added a further 19 points on the second nine.

More importantly, he had 13 points over the final six holes which pushed Thompson into fifth place after the pair had the same total over the second nine holes. Thompson, off a 28 handicap, with reflect ruefully on a ‘ding’ at 13 that proved crucial on countback.

Sixth prize went to Harry McGarry (10) with 39 points but he had an inferior second nine of one point less than those ahead of him.

The best gross card was returned by Sean McGarry (5) who played the course in two over par, 70 shots.

WEDNESDAY OPEN

The Wednesday open stableford saw Derek Smyth (18) claim victory with a total of 40 points, of which 23 came on the front nine which included four pars and a birdie on the ninth.

The second half was not of a similar standard but a further 17 points ensured he finished two points ahead of Gerard Rafferty (8) who had 20 points on the opening nine and the second nine was played to his handicap, being four over for 18 points.

The best gross prize was won by David Smith (5) who was seven over par 75 shots.

SUNDAY OPEN

Chris Ramsey (14) was top on the Sunday with a better last six hole total from Jake Carson after both had scored 40 points. Third nett was James Shields (13) with 39 points, while John Robinson won the gross prize with a one under par round of 67.

CAMERON CUP

Michael Smyth won the Cameron Cup club championship with a total of 140 shots. Second was Mark Surgenor (142) and third John Robinson (143).
