McMenamin wins Iona Society outing

THE weather wasn’t kind to Iona Bar Golf Society’s latest outing to Newtownstewart Golf Club recently.

Throughout the outing it was persistent rain and some heavy showers, however scoring was still high.

Mark McMenamin (17), who was golfer of the year last season, claimed first place after a break of tie finish when he scored 40 points, second was Angus Gillespie (26) who also finished with 40 points and Seamus Given (16) with 35 points was third.

Eoin Rankin (11) with 31 points won the category one section also a BOT finish, Arthur McMenamon (17) won the category two section after finishing with 30 points and Eamon Curran (22) with 33 points won the category three section.

Tommy McGlinchey (12) with 18 points won the front nine and Bosco Kelly (14) with 16 points won the back nine; Kelly also won a bottle at hole three and Martin Tierney secured the bottle at hole 10.

Bosco Kelly, Mark McMenamin, Topo Kelly and Eamon Curran claimed the team prize; Des Elliott with 10 points won the captain’s prize and Cliff Caldwell with 29 points won the visitor’s prize.

The next outing which takes place this weekend is at Sligo.
