Paul on top form to lift spoils at Silverwood

The winner of this week’s competition at Silverwood Golf Club was Paul Gilmore with a net 64.

Paul had a great front nine of 34 which included a birdie at the 4th and no bogeys, his back nine was equally as good with one birdie at the hardest hole on the course the 16th index 1 and only one bogey at the 12th hole for an excellent sub-par round of golf and best round of the day.

In second place with a net 65 was Paul Johnston who went round the front nine in 42 shots which included four pars at the 2nd, 7th, 8th and 9th holes, three single bogeys at the 1st 4th and 6th holes, and two double bogeys at the 3rd and 5th holes.

His back nine of 46 contained one par at the 14th hole one double bogey at the 11th hole and the remaining holes were played in one over par.

In third place with a net 65 was Martin Greene, he had a great front nine of 34 shots with only one bogey at the 5th hole, two birdies at the 2nd and 7th holes and the remaining holes played in par, his back nine was not as good with five bogeys and only four pars at the 11th, 14th, 17th and 18th, still a very solid round of golf for this popular player.

The gross prize was won by John Marley with a 74.

John went round the front nine in 36 shots with only one bogey and the remaining holes played in par. His back nine of 38 included one birdie at the 13th hole, two bogeys at the 10th and 17th holes and again the remaining holes played in par.

The fourth prize was picked up by Mark Jordan with a net 68. Mark went round the front nine in 38 shots with three bogeys and six pars.

His back nine of 39 included one birdie, three bogeys and five pars at the remaining holes.

Fifth prize went to Martin McConville with a net 68, he went round the front nine in 38 with seven pars and one double bogey and one single bogey. His back nine of 45 included one birdie at the 14th hole, one par at the 18th hole and five bogeys and two double bogeys.

The senior prize was won by Brian Brady with a net 69.

Section prizes were as follows: 0-12 Francis Kelly net 70; 13-18 Jeff Conway net 69; 19-28 James Nicholl net 70.

This week’s competition is the Silverwood Cup, a two day event.
