Professional’s Day success at Galgorm Castle

Professionals Day at Galgorm Castle Golf Club was played under near perfect golfing conditions.

After the opening front nine Owen Smith (4) was one point ahead of Robert Barkley (22) with Colin Black (19) another point behind.

Michael Alexander was a further point back followed by James Mairs (11) and Paul Houston (5) another two points down. After a ‘ding’ at the Fort, Barkley came back with three pars and was level with Smith through the Maple.

A par at Beechers by Barkley to a bogey from Smith saw the former take a two point advantage which he held up the Grove.

Barkley went three points clear of Smith with a bogey at the seventeenth with Black still another point behind. Mairs who was playing extremely well was a further point away and was joined by Alexander who was finishing strongly.

Although finishing with a double bogey Barkley came home the overall winner by two points from Smith (par). In a close finish for the remaining places Black (double bogey), Mairs (par) and Alexander (par) finished together and with a better back nine overall third place went to Mairs. Overall fourth place went to Alexander with a better back nine and Black took the final placing.

The Gross prize was won by Steven Penney (1) 37 pts. and the Seniors was won by Michael McAuley (15) 38 pts. As well as the Stableford competition, Nearest the pin was won by Brian McFall and the Longest Drive which was won by Peter Houston.
