Tony is a clear winner after a brilliant round

Tony Henderson was this year’s convincing winner with a brilliant round of 75 for 43 points off 12. Known for his consistent handicap equalling returns he had one birdie and six bogeys in an almost faultless round.

Darryl McErlean and Terry McCrory came second and third respectively on President’s Day three weeks ago and repeated that finishing order at the weekend. Darryl had 40 points, off 22, to finish runner-up and has now lost 4 shots off his handicap in those three weeks.

After second place there were five nett prizes up for grabs and six players on 39 points to contest them. Terry McCrory’s 21pts on the back 9, off 16, put him into third place despite double bogeys at 3, 9 and 11.

After a rare barren spell, Terry has once more found his form and will no doubt be featuring again shortly.

Peader Murray found his form too and took fourth, with 20 homeward points, 15 of which were scored over the last six holes. A triple bogey at 7 denied him a higher finish.

The low section went to Garfield Bell, off 10, helped by birdies at 8 and 10. He missed out on a higher finish due to his 13 points over the last six.

Seniors’ specialist John Forrester took the middle section, off 17, with 19 of his 39 points on the back 9. Liam Scullion took the high section with 39 off 23. His three double bogeys in the last four holes brought a promising round to a disappointing end.

And who was the unlucky 39 pointer to miss out? None other than Club Captain Ian Cousins.

Five under his handicap after 13 holes, off 10, a double bogey at 14 and NR at 17 saw him slip off the leaderboard.

Gary Clarke took the gross after a level par round with birdies at 1, 4, 10 and 17.
