Totton top of the Silverwood pack

Gerard Totton scooped the final major of the year at Silverwood thanks to 82 points across the two-day weekend competition.

The Silverwood Cup attracted a strong field as Totton posted scores of 42 and 40 respectively with an overall tally of two birdies and 11 pars.

That form left Totton top by a single point over Eugene McKeever.

McKeever posted a level-par opening round of 40 points that included four birdies and 10 pars, with a gross 71 on the final day. Highlights on the scorecard included an eagle at the first, three birdies and 11 pars.

Dessie O’Hara finished third on 81 points thanks to 40 points and 41 - with four birdies and 16 pars overall.

Patrick Jordan posted the top gross on 72 thanks to his one-under-par 71, following three birdies and 13 pars, before an eagle as the main talking point from a 73 gross on the final outing.

Paul Johnston came home fourth on 79 points due to counts of, respectively, 36 and 43 - with Paul Toman next in line on 78 points.

Other prizes went to Fintan McAreavey (second gross, 65), Thomas Feehan (seniors, 71 points) and James Judge (juniors, 86 points.) Judge registered the top score of the weekend.

The daily scorers were: (day one) 1, Darren McCabe 40 points; 2, Alan Johnston 39 points; junior, Desmond Madden 42 points. (day two) 1, Hugo Funes 40 points; 2, Brian Toman 40 points; junior, Jack Doyle 37 points. (front nine) 1, Justin Dummigan 22 points. (back nine) John Carson 21 points.
