Hockey Club Day proves a big success

BALLYMENA Hockey Club held a Club Day at the showgrounds on Saturday to finish off their summer league.

Over 50 players, men and women from the senior, junior and veteran leagues played through the blazing sun to end a popular 8 week programme for the club.

The day consisted of fun games with players split into veteran matches and senior/junior matches. Finals were then played between teams that had taken part throughout the previous weeks.

The 'post' season league was an initiative lead by hockey development officer, Simon Law, and one of its successes has been the revival of the veteran interest to hockey.

Adults, over 30, have shown a real eagerness to get back into the sport whether it be those who have come through the club in their younger years or those who have not lifted a stick since their school days!

Many are parents of minis and juniors who have decided to join their children at their own game.

The interest shown in the summer leagues has lead to a demand to continue social hockey for adults over the summer. It will be held on Tuesday nights from 7-8pm.

Both men and ladies are welcome and sticks are provided for those who are beginners. For more information visit the club website at www.ballymenahockey.com or contact Simon Law on 07843430258.
