Hockey: Cookstown 3rd XI celebrate League Cup victory

Cookstown 2-1 Instonians In the final game of the season Cookstown 3rd XI played against Instonians 3rd XI in the Junior 2 League Cup Final hosted at Civil Service Hockey Club.

The game started immediately with Cookstown on the back foot, absorbing a lot of pressure from the Inst forwards.

However some great defending from Donaldson, Johnston and Thom kept the Reds in the game. Instonians were first to win a penalty corner which Atkinson took off the line, the game remained 0-0 at the end of the first half.

Cookstown started the second half much better, controlling the game and looking the likely team to score.

Atkinson took a free quickly and squared the ball to Stewart who unleashed a reverse shot past the Inst keeper to give the Reds the lead.

Cookstown had many more chances through McCabe and Watt who were linking well with the midfield. Keeper Ashley Gillis was in great form in goals pulling off some good saves to keep the Reds infront.

The game was sealed however when Stewart fired another unstoppable reverse shot past the Inst keeper to send the Reds 2-0 up and guarantee the trophy was coming back to Cookstown for the first time.
