James Edgar and Clodagh O'Reilly storm to success in Schools cross-country

James Edgar and Clodagh O'Reilly won the senior races at the Milk-IT Ulster Schools Cross Country Championships at Mallusk in an event which attracted almost 1,300 entries.

Edgar from Friends Schools and Craig McMeechan of Bangor Grammar came away from the chasing group on the final lap with Edgar, last year’s intermediate winner, taking a close victory.

Fintan Stewart of Lumen Christi was third ahead of Rathmore pair Eoin McCann and Christy Conlon.

Clodagh O’Reilly from St Pats Cavan looked classy as she retained her girls title ahead of Aife McSheffrey, Limavady Grammar with Edel Monaghan, Mount Lourdes, Toni Moore, Sacred Heart Omagh, Laura Gardiner, St Mary’s Downpatrick and Rebecah Nixon, Banbridge Academy following.

Patrick McNiff was superb in the inter boys. The Banbridge Academy student started hot favourite and eased away for a comfortable victory over Sean Corry Omagh CBS and Peter Gracey Aquinas.

Olivia Nelson from Strathearn was equally dominate as she led the girls inters for every step of the way to cross the line ahead of Niamh Heaney Dean Maguire, Enya Haigney Loreto Omagh and Niamh Carr Loreto Coleraine.

Conor Doherty St Colman’s won the junior boys with Rebecca Wallace from Wallace High just beating Katie Agnew form Ballymena Academy in the girls. The minor titles went to Matthew Smyth of Methody and Anna Hill of Victoria with the mini titles being won by Dylan McBride of Grosvenor and Victoria Lightbody of Wallace.
