The series is considered by many as the premier club series in Ireland and with the Irish Kart Gran Prix only a few weeks away, this will be the last chance for full race practice before the biggest event on the Irish Calendar.

Racing throughout the Ulster Championship to date has been closely fought for and this Saturday will be no different with all the non gearbox classes taking in three heats and a final.

Points are scored in all four races on the day, with double points in the finals. With only two more rounds after this one, drivers will be keen to start consolidating their positions without risking equipment ahead of the GP.

The sport had a big blow recently with the death of ‘Mr Karting NI’, Terry Wilkinson, from Newtownards. Terry was one of the founder members of the sport in the province, a founder member of the North of Ireland Karting Association (NIKA), amongst others. Terry took on organisational roles after he ended racing, and in latter years looked after the family team comprising his two sons Keith and Jonny with grandson Nicholas helping out in the past year. Everyone within the kart racing fraternity wishes to pass on their condolences to the whole Wilkinson family and friends.

The Ulster Karting Club re-vamped website (www.ulsterkartingclub.co.uk) has more information on the sport.
