Michelin turn up heat as pool league title race resumes

The momentum in the race for the Ballymena Towers Pool League title may have shifted back to Michelin Masters as the league resumed last week.

In the first round of matches since the break for the Festival of Pool, the Woodside Road team slipped back into gear by taking full points from their meeting with bottom side Diamond Duffers, while title rivals Connolly’s ‘B’ dropped four points in two meetings with Ballee Black Ballers.

Fairhill Dreamers 0, Michelin Inbetweeners 6: The first three games went to Michelin, all of which they won 2-1 after losing the first frame. Their winners were Ryan Logan, Gary Ormandy and Gareth Rowe who defeated Gareth Montgomery, Glenn Mairs and Sean Brannigan.

Michelin continued in the winning vein with three more victories, this time all in straight frames, through Finton Long, Phil Houston and Stewarty Frew who all beat Ricky Allen, Linzi McClelland and Guy Rodgers. POM - Stewarty Frew.

BUSC 2, Fairhill Hustlers 4: Ritchie Irwin got the away team off to a good start after he beat Marc McMullan 2-1 after losing the first frame.

BUSC levelled the scores at 1-1 when Eddie Fleck had a 2-1 win over Adam Gordon.

Fairhill ran off three games in a row through Justin Kilpatrick, Richard Campbell and Robert Graham who defeated Johnny Fleck , Ross Hill and Albert McBride.

In the final game BUSC pulled another one back when Brian Boyd defeated Paul Hayes by a 2-1 scoreline. POM - Robert Graham.

Michelin Masters 6, Diamond Duffers 0: Drew Sloan got Masters off to a good start when he beat Tam McMaster in straight frames before Alan Armstrong doubled the score when he beat Jason Olgilvy by the same margin.

David Armstrong, not to be outdone by his brother, also had a 2-0 win over Darren McFetridge.

Brian Hanna came from being one down to win 2-1 against Matthew Peacock while game five went to Rick McMaster who beat Steven Douglas by a 2-1 scoreline. In the final game Alan Rainey had a 2-0 win over Steven French, helped on his way with an eight-ball clearance in the first frame. POM - Alan Rainey.

Diamond Dazzlers 3, Coach Bar 3: Diamond’s Ian Boal came from behind to defeat David Gillespie 2-1 and Malcolm Graffin doubled the score for the Diamond when he had a 2-0 win over KD Crabbe.

Coach opened their account when David Carlisle defeated Robert Artt by a 2-1 scoreline after losing the first frame before Darren Gilmore beat Chris Gordon by a 2-1 score to level the match score at 2-2.

Coach continued their run and went ahead for the first time through Raymond Lynn who defeated Adrian Rourke in straight frames. In the final game Ruairi O’Connell came from behind to defeat James Gillespie to earn a draw. POM - Ian Boal.

Ballee Black Ballers 2, Connolly’s B 4: Brett McLaughlin got Connolly’s off to a good start when he beat Craig Young in straight frames before Pat McAnally came from being one down to win 2-1 against Lewis Boyd.

Dean Robinson pulled one back for Ballee when he defeated Dee Erwin by a 2-1 scoreline after losing the first frame.

Ryan Foster restored the two game difference when he beat Neil Weir by a 2-1 scoreline and in game five Alan Davidson had a win in straight frames over Allister Law. Jimmy Barr pulled another game back for Ballee when he defeated Marcus Westhall in straight frames. POM - Dean Robinson.

Connolly’s B 4, Ballee Black Ballers 2: Pat McAnally put the home team ahead when he beat Jimmy Barr in straight frames and Brett McLaughlin made it two when he beat Neil Weir by a 2-1 scoreline.

Paul Smyth pulled a game back for the Black Ballers when he defeated Connor Connolly in straight frames.

In game four Owen Butler restored the two game difference when he beat Dean Robinson.

Once again the Black Ballers came back with a win by Allister Law who beat Marcus Westhall by a 2-1 scoreline. In the final game Dee Erwin defeated Lewis Boyd also by a 2-1 scoreline to secure victory for Connolly’s. POM - Lewis Boyd.

Diamond Dazzlers 4, Ballee Black Ballers 2: Ian Boal got Dazzlers off to a winning start when he defeated Allister Law 2-1 but Paul Smyth levelled the match score when he defeated Malcolm Graffin by the same scoreline.

Dazzlers won the next three games all by 2-0 scorelines, their winners being Brendan O’Mullan, Robert Artt and Adrian Rourke. In the final game the Black Ballers pulled another game back when Dean Robinson beat Robert Hargan in straight frames. POM - Paul Smyth
