‘Wee Wizard’ Seeley closes the gap at Silverstone

The East Antrim ace took victory in Saturday’s sprint race, and with Easton having the misfortune of crashing on the opening lap, Alastair is right back in the title hunt. “It’s swings and roundabouts in this championship,” said Seeley. “I’ve had my bad luck but with Stuart going down and me winning, it has gone from impossible to ‘do-able’ for me in terms of the title,”

In Sunday’s race Seeley was again in contention for the race win. He was, in fact, in the lead in the closing stages before Luke Mossey hit the front.

The trio of Billy McConnell, Jason O’Halloran and Seeley were left to sort out second between themselves but O’Halloran and Seeley ran wide at Village and let McConnell through to second.

At the Loop on the penultimate lap, Seeley and O’Halloran collided but the local rider still managed to finish third. However, there was a judical decision following the race and the Carrick rider was handed a 10-second penalty which dropped him to 10th, and more importantly, 19 points behind Easton with only one race to go at Brands Hatch on October 19 and 20.

“It was another good weekend and it was the first time since my crash at Cadwell that I actually felt good on the bike again. I was able to move it around to where I needed to. It was great to be back on the top step of the podium on Saturday and close in the lead in the championship.

“The second race was a little messy and there was some contact between all riders, it was a hard race and we all wanted to win. I ended up with third but I was knocked back to 10th after a time penalty incurred for the O’Halloran incident. I’m a bit annoyed by the outcome of it as I’d worked really hard to get myself in a good position in the race and also the championship, but I will make sure that I keep fighting to the end.”
