Glengormley farmer was ‘like bridegroom’

A farmer who agreed to sell land to the Ministry of Commerce to make way for a factory development was compared to a “bridegroom going to the altar after a shotgun had been pointed as his head”, in May 1968.

The comment was made by QC Frank Reid during a hearing of the Lands Tribunal in May 1968.

The farmer owned 51 acres of land at Derry Road, off Hightown Road,

The tribunal had beenasked to fix a price for the land.
