Orr is top scorer in Fourball League

TWO rounds of the Winter Fourball League have been completed at Banbridge Golf Club. There are three rounds remaining.

SECTION ONE: It’s all very close in Section One with only five points separating the top four teams.

Team 4 are the new leaders in section one. They scored 98 points in round two thanks to Stephen Orr (35 points), Keith Steenson (34 points) and Gary McCartney (29 points). Their running total is 197 points.

Team 10 are now second, only three points behind the leaders. Their three best scores in round two came from Andrew Quinn (34), Seamus Rooney (32) and Eugene Weir (30). That added up to 96 points and their two round total is 194 points.

Team 2, who lead after the opening round, are now in third place with a total of 193 points. Their three counting scores came from Cecil Johnston (33), Colin Wilton (30) and Roy Sipson (27).

Don’t rule out Team 5 who are currently in fourth place with 192 points. That’s only five points behind the leaders with three rounds to go.

Dominic Quinn was the top scorer for Team 5 with a superb 35 points. Hugh Dunne added 34 points and Shane McCrory contributed 27 points.

SECTION TWO: Team 7 are threatening to run away with Section Two. They scored 97 points for the second time and they have opened up a 10 points lead.

Gerry Blevins was their star player and he was supported by Bertie Shaw (31 points) and Brian Parkes (30 points). Their two round total is 194 points.

Team 5 remain in second place with 184 points. Their second round scores were Sean McGreevey (33), Colm McGreevey (30), Kieran McGreevey (26) and Eamon McAnarney (26).

Team 8 have come into the reckoning after a magnificent team performance in round two. Merton McDowell scored 36 points, Kenny Baines scored 35 and Danny O’Boyle added 30 points. Their team score of 101 points was the best score in round two. They jumped from seventh place into third.

It looks to be between those three teams but team 6 will not give up just yet. They are in fourth place with 177 points. Dennis Watt, Albert Morrison, Colin McKinney and Philip Mallon are well capable of a few team scores over a hundred points. That’s what they need.

Round three should be interesting.
