Pauline and Stephen win in-house tournaments

THE Christmas In House Tournament was held in the Tennis Club last week and was well attended by members.

The evening was kind to us with no wind or rain and everyone was able to play three games before winners were announced.

The winner of the ladies competition was Pauline Crothers, followed one point behind by Daphne Gray while Steven Smyth won the Mens and again only one point behind Greg Ratcliffe in the runners-up position.

The Ladies Captain, Jean Campbell displayed her baking skills and we were served up festive treats so special thanks to her for all her efforts which were greatly appreciated by all. Thanks also to Steven Smyth for providing some Christmas prizes.

The Floodlit Leagues are now well under way and the first B Team match was away to Cloughey on the east coast of the Ards Peninsula.

Despite terrible wind and rain during the day the opposing team insisted that the weather in Cloughey was not too bad. After two hours of wind, rain and freezing conditions Banbridge were glad to be off the courts, losing 3-1 but this week under better conditions managed a draw at home to Hawarden. Steven Smyth and Cyril McClune won the Mens Doubles while Cyril won second Mixed with Jan Hall.
