City of Derry Ladies have yet to concede a point after making it two Rosie Stewart Cup Pool A wins from two following a hardy, physical battle against a dogged Cavan XV at Judges Road on Sunday.

The Judges Road Ladies got their competition off to an emphatic start last week with a 63-0 dismantling of Omagh but Cavan provided a much sterner test though Derry still dominated possession.

Cavan arrived at judges Road with the intention of setting up a strong defensive line but it took just 10 minutes for Lizzie Ballantine to break through for Derry’s first try of the game.

The home side kept the pressure on and a series of well-executed off-loads from the home back line led to the second try of the game from Ruagin Doherty to ensure a comfortable interval lead

The second half started with a similar intensity with ‘Player of the Match’ Julie Pollock outstanding in the line-out and secure in the tackle.

The final try of the game came midway through the second half when Ciara Moore broke free to touch down between the posts before converting her own try.

Derry began searching for a bonus point to close out their last home game of the season but Cavan maintained a strong defence, fighting for their own place on the scoreboard.

The Judges Road ladies go into their next game against defending champions, Cooke (who defeated Cavan 51-5 enjoyed a walkover victory over Omagh) knowing that a win would secure a home semi-final in the competition.
