Sean's above-par display lands Bill Rainey Memorial victory at Raceview

Sean McLarnon (17) was declared the winner with a total of eight up on par but only because he had a better second nine score than Brian Casey.

On the outward nine holes, Sean registered six pars, two bogeys and a non-score on the fifth to be four up on par.

His inward nine produced five pars, three bogeys and another non-event, this time at the 10th, for an overall return of eight up on par.

Runner-up Casey, with a shot on handicap at each hole, was five up on par after nine holes after four pars, a birdie at the sixth and four bogeys. His second nine holes resulted in six single bogeys and three pars as he finished eight up in total.

Third place was taken by Steven Thompson with a total of six up on par, three of those coming on each nine holes. The highlight of his round was a birde at the long par four 15th.

Fourth prize winner was James Drennan (13) who had the best five up total, thanks to a better last three holes return from William McCartney (22).

The last three hole score was also requiredto separate Mccartney from 22-handicapper Allan Foster, who claimed the sixth nett prize. He had looked to be in a great position after being six up on par after nine holes but his second nine was something of an anti-climax.

The best gross card was returned by Steven Smyth (4) who is now happily back playing after a period of illness.

He played the front nine in level par gross and finished his round four over par in total.

WEDNESDAY OPEN

The Wednesday open stableford resulted in Allan Campbell (22) securing the top prize with a score of 38 points.

Thomas Surgenor (13) was runner-up, two points behind and on a better second nine total from Sean McLarnon who also carded 36 points.

David Smith won the best gross prize with a score of seven over par gross.

The five-handicapper’s winning round included an impressive birdie at the 360-metre par four 15th hole.
