Shannon, 13 is stock car diver of the year

GLENARM schoolgirl Shannon Morrow has won a clutch of motorsport trophies, and an Irish championship, at only 13 years old.

She might be too young to drive on the roads, but the Dunclug High School pupil from Deerpark Road knows how to put her foot down in stock car racing.

Having got behind the wheel when she was 10, the teenager has won more than 80 trophies, including the coveted Driver of the Year award, presented along with the championship silverware at an awards night in Thurles, at the weekend.

Proud dad Robin – who raced stock cars for 30 years – prepares Shannon’s customised Ford Fiesta, as well as driving to races in Tipperary and Meath at weekends.

“Shannon is easily the youngest in the junior class. She was runner-up in the Irish championship last year, but she won her last three finals and 25 races altogether this season to win the title and the Driver of the Year Award,” said Robin.

He said his “car-mad” daughter needs no encouragement to go racing.
