Silver for Larne AC at NI Championships

Larne Athletic Club were well represented at the Northern Ireland Road Relay Championships in Victoria Park, Belfast on Saturday.

Two teams competed in the men’s masters category, while one team took part in the male senior event. Although all three teams ran well, it was the masters team of Andrew Guy, Nat Glenn, James Brown and Craig Hutchinson who excelled.

After going into the final leg of the 4x3380m race in fourth place, behind strong North Belfast Harriers’ and North Down AC teams, the local men managed to turn things around, to claim second place in an exciting finish, running a collective time of 44:50.

Meanwhile, three Larne AC members travelled to Ballymena for the ECOS Parkrun. On a newly-set 5km course, Geraldine Quigley won the female race in 20:17. Special mention must also go to Geraldine’s daughter, Catriona Quigley who finished in second place, running 22:33. Ruth Wilson, competing in her first Parkrun, completed the weekly time-trial in an impressive 22:34 to take third. Ian Brennan completed the course in 20:14, just short of his Parkrun personal best but an excellent time on the new technically challenging course.

Larne AC club chairman Andy Gregg returned to the mountains this weekend, taking on the Slieve Gullion race just outside Magherafelt. Andy completed the 4.5-mile course, with 380m of climbing in 49:58. It was enough to secure 11th place.

In warm conditions, all three ran well and completed the demanding course in excellent times. Julie-Ann was first home in 59:33, with Gillian (1:00:17) and Sharon (1:04:49) just behind.
