Dixon Park was the venue for Larne YMCA’s National Play Day celebrations last Saturday with over 100 children and adults having fun together.

Larne YMCA play co-ordinator Laura McAllister commented: “The whole aim is to get parents and children outside having fun together doing simple but enjoyable things – building dens, playing games, making things out of junk and, of course, having a go on our very own YMCA “slippery slope”.

“We want people to realise the value of play, how it helps increase physical activity, develops social skills and helps children and adults de-stress. It is also so easy to create similar activities at home - a few cardboard boxes and old sheets are all that is needed to make a den. A child’s imagination will do the rest.”

“We have been so very lucky with the weather – what could be better? Plenty of people enjoying fun activities together in such a beautiful park – a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.”

Playday is a campaign that highlights the importance of play in children’s lives as well as a celebrating of children’s right to play

The event at Dixon Park was supported by Larne Borough Council.
