D’arcy takes top spot at Galgorm Castle’s Professional’s Day

There was a good turnout of golfers for the annual Club Pro’s Day at Galgorm Castle Golf Club.

There were prizes for the winners, a ‘beat the pro’ at the par three seventh and ‘free food’ at halfway. Phil Collins the head pro set the golfers off as he announced each one by name as they teed off.

There was a close finish to the competition with six golfers involved and only two points separating them.

At halfway David Stirling jnr. playing off five held a one point advantage over George McAuley (17) and Mark Dunlop (5). Three points further behind came Kevin Duffin (20) who was a point ahead of Tim D’Arcy (16) and Ronan Speers (24).

A new leader emerged through thirteen with Dunlop taking a one point lead over Stirling jnr and Speers who had moved up with the help of two pars.

Duffin and D’Arcy were another point down with McAuley falling back another point after two double bogeys but still very much in contention.

The Grove proved to be a disastrous hole for two of the leading three as Dunlop and Stirling jnr failed to register, thus leaving a chance for the others to take advantage.

D’Arcy with a run of bogey, par, par moved into a two point lead from Duffin and Speers with McAuley, Dunlop and Stirling jnr a further point away.

D’Arcy held on over the closing two holes with a bogey, double bogey finish to win by one point from Duffin (two bogeys) in second place. Speers (bogey, ‘ding’), McAuley (double bogey, par), Dunlop (bogey, par) and Stirling jnr (bogey, par) all finished together and third place went to Speers (better back nine).

McAuley finished fourth with a better back six and Dunlop claimed the final place with a better back nine.

The Gross Prize was one by Liam Reilly jnr (0) with 34 pts and the Seniors Prize was won by Raymond Ardis (12) with 36 pts.

Results – Overall Winner – Timothy D’Arcy (16) 39 pts – Runner-up – Kevin Duffin (20) 38 pts – 3rd. Ronan Speers (24) 37 pts (BB9) – 4th. George McAuley (17) 37 pts (BB6) – 5th. Mark Dunlop (5) 37 pts (BB9).
