Cookstown lowered the colours of newly-crowned County champions Clonoe at Paddy Cullen Park on Sunday, to give themselves a great chance of reaching the league semi-finals in a contest that saw five players dismissed.

Match official Brian McCallion set his stall out from day one, with Christopher Eastwood and Jerome McClure both receiving double yellow cards with less than a quarter of an hour gone on the clock.

James McGahan scored three first half points for the Fr Rocks, with Shane O’Hagan and Ryan T O’Neill replying for the visitors before a late goal from Brian O’Neill left it 1-4 to 0-5 at the break.

By that stage they were on level terms, courtesy of a Stephen McNulty free but a late brace from Owen Mulligan won the day for the hosts.
