One of Ballymena’s longest-established junior football teams celebrated a notable milestone at the weekend.
Past and current players of FC Penarol gathered at Leighinmohr House Hotel to reflect on 40 years since the Saturday Morning league outfit was formed.
A total of 135 people attended the function, 80 of whom were either past or present players.
Davy King carried out master of ceremony duties excellently on the night and the main speaker for the evening was Jackie Fullerton.
Club chairman John White - the man known as ‘Mr Penarol’ - received a standing ovation for his speech, in which he talked about the history of the club, and thanked all the players and supporters, as well as sponsors down through the years.
There was a vast array of photographs and newspaper cuttings on display, and these were viewed all night long, with more than a chuckle or two on the way!
The club was also fortunate to have two Ballymena United signed shirts for the raffle, as well as a signed Southampton FC shirt, and an FC Penarol shirt that was signed by every player on the night.
Leighinmohr put up an excellent meal and the entertainment was supplied by ex player Herbie Linton.
